​Massive Wins for Housing Justice and Collective Power

Tenants flexed their power at the polls this week with resounding victories for housing justice in both Oakland and San Francisco. In this COVID climate of inflation and housing insecurity, we sent a clear message to corporate landlords and speculators, renters will stand together to defend the future of our cities.

Measure V: Extend Just Cause Protections

Measure V will extend “just cause for eviction” legal protections for tenants to more properties in Oakland. It will also add defenses to the existing ordinance, such as extra protections for school-age children and educators being evicted during the school year.

Measure Q: Authorize Social Housing

Measure Q will authorize the City of Oakland to build or acquire up to 13,000 units of social housing (affordable housing owned by the city or supported by the city).
